A Note from Kevin

I love you, but I CAN'T STAND YOU! You're a good person, but YOU'RE ACTING LIKE A JERK! You're a wonderful father, but a LOUSY SELFISH HUSBAND! I want you, but I DON'T WANT YOU! Do ANY OF these sound familiar? If so, read on...

Welcome to the Summer edition of Anew Place News! This issue focuses on some the ups and downs of "togetherness." Ahhh. That sounds so sweet (so mushy). So needed, yet too surreal for today's world. We often think that summer is a time to kick back, enjoy nature, get away to explore, make a lot of love, and dream. This often happens...if we are prepared for it. But usually summertime creeps up on us, and we're left feeling frustrated, somewhat despondent, and unavailable to our loved ones.

I recently was talking with a friend who said, "I can't believe the summer is here already! I haven't planned our vacation yet. I still have too much yard work to do. It's getting hotter outside, and the humidity really sucks. And still _______ (his wife) expects me to be Superman to her and the kids!" He thought he had to be Superman for his wife and kids (at least according to his wife). Wow! What pressure?! I joked with him saying that he needed to find a big "S" and wear it to bed.

The point is we (and sometimes others) put incredible demands on ourselves to conform and/or perform. Deep down we know that we lack Superman/woman qualities, leaving us frustrated and, therefore, often "un-connectable" and unavailable to our loved ones. And this doesn't create "togetherness!" Or...that's what we believe. My hope is that in the midst of your frustrations, you will find connection and openness--with yourself and your lover!

This issue offers two articles that suggest ways to keep you focused on the important things in life, particularly in the summertime. The first, How to Keep Your Cool in the Summertime, will help you to stay centered when the frustrations of "performance" arise. The second, Rewriting the Myth of Perfect Togetherness, helps to recalibrate what "should" (a familial and/or religion term) be happening in your intimate relationships. In other words, it opens the door for another perspective of "togetherness," creating our need to become authentic, open and grounded in our loving!

It is my hope that you find this Anew Place News challenging and helpful for your Summer adventures! As always, I welcome your feedback, comments and stories as to how your life has been enriched. Have a terrific summer!

How to Keep Your Cool in the Summertime
For all the talk about summertime and the living being easy, it may not be as easy as it seems. Along with longer daylight hours and warmer temperatures, summer brings on its own stress. Here's a list of ten summer stressors.

Rewriting the Myth of Perfect Togetherness
The story goes like this: Two people fall in love and from that moment on, they go everywhere and do everything together. They are, of course, a perfect match sexually, and their interests and values coincide in every respect. In fact, if they spend much time apart or socialize separately, people might wonder if there is trouble in the relationship.

This is the myth of togetherness: two lives merge into one melded front.

Living into Your Deeper Strengths: Understanding the Sovereign, Warrior, Lover, Magician Archetypes Workshop

Saturday, August 29, 2009, from 9:00 am - 12:00 noon
$25 (includes a light breakfast and materials)

The men's movement has come and gone. But I believe that a new "movement" is shaping. And I believe at its core is to help men and women to live authentically with each other. This workshop will center on understanding four of the major archetypes: Sovereign, Warrior, Lover and Magician, and how they apply to our lives today.

You will see yourself more clearly, i.e. where your strengths and challenges are. You will see how your archetypal energies express themselves in your relationships at home, in bed, at work, in your spiritual communities, and more. Men and women are strongly encouraged to attend. Hope to see you there. Call Kevin for more information and/or register online at www.Anew-Place.com.
